Privacy
This site collects as little as it can. There are no cookies, no advertising trackers, and no contact form — if you want to reach me, you email me directly. Two things are measured, and this page explains exactly what.
Website analytics
This site uses Pirsch Analytics to see how visitors move through it. Pirsch is a privacy-first analytics service run by Emvi Software GmbH in Germany.
What is collected
- The address of the page you open, and when you opened it
- Your device type, browser, and operating system, in broad categories
- The country you are visiting from
- The referring page, if you arrived by following a link
- Clicks on the email button and on links that lead to other sites
What is not collected
- No cookies are set, so there is no cookie banner to dismiss
- No IP addresses are stored — Pirsch derives an anonymous marker that lasts a single day and is then discarded
- No personal data, and no tracking across other sites or devices
- No analytics data is shared with third parties outside the EU
All of it is stored on servers in Germany and processed in line with the GDPR.
Error and performance monitoring
When something on this site breaks in your browser, a report goes to Sentry so I can find it and fix it. Sentry also receives a measurement of how quickly each page loaded for you — on every visit, not only when something goes wrong. Sentry is run by Functional Software, Inc. in the United States, and the data from this site is stored in its European region, in Germany.
What is collected
- The error message, and the line of code that produced it, when something breaks
- How quickly the page loaded for you — timings only, on every visit
- The address of the page you were on, and when
- Your browser and operating system, with their versions
- Possibly your approximate location — Sentry may derive it from your IP address, which is then discarded
What is not collected
- No cookies, and nothing that identifies you as a person
- No IP address is kept — it is used to work out the location above, then discarded
- No recording of your session — nothing you see or type on the page is captured
- No tracking across other websites, and no profile built up about you over time
This data stays in Germany. Sentry is a US company, so any access from outside the EU is covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
